Screaming for Ice Cream

It may not feel like summer yet, but ice cream brings a smile one even the cloudiest of days.  Remember the old jingle?  You scream, I scream, we all scream for ... ice cream!  Everyone seems to love it.

I posted about local winners in 2012.  The three options in Wellfleet are PJs, on Route 6, which has become a tradition for some vacationers, A Nice Cream Shop on Main, where it is possible, cone in hand, to people-watch on the lawn out front, and Mac’s by the harbor, where my family enjoyed sweet treats last week.  (A Nice Cream Shop sells Emack and Bolio’s, Mac’s offers Hood and Gifford’s, as does PJs.) There is also an ice cream counter at the Drive-in, and flea market fans often stop in for a cone.

I have sworn off ice cream for health reasons, but on Friday at noon Sven and I stopped at the Red Barn, in Eastham, for pizza, and I allowed myself to be seduced by Moose Tracks frozen yogurt.  What a mistake that was.  This new flavor of frozen yogurt contains twice the amount of sugar necessary.  Not good, not good!

When in Boston, I buy Coconut Bliss, Dairy Free.  Delicious!  My favorite ice cream in town remains available at Wellfleet Marketplace by the quart:  Cape Cod Creamery’s Menemsha Chip, which reminds me of Howard Johnson’s Mocca Chip, the flavor I enjoyed the most growing up.

Do you have a favorite ice cream?
